Project: '10 Pete 389 Highway Tractor

We brought the Pete 389 EXH in from the factory with a 280” wheelbase rolling glider kit with Eaton DSH 410 rears (3:36 ration) with dual driver controlled lockers sitting on Low-Low Air Trac suspension.  The cab was spec’d with a Platinum Level interior package along with a 63” flat top sleeper.  From there the Kustom Truck team went to work on the drive train and custom options.  The 389 was begging for a Caterpillar C16 factory rated 600 HP to move up and down the road.  Behind the CAT sat a factory re-man Fuller 20918B transmission.  Prior to being sat in the frame rails a Kustom paint and ceramic detail package was applied to both, even the exhaust piping kit got the ceramic treatment to help dissipate the heat this CAT was going to produce.  A Kustom Coolant Manifold was installed on the passenger side frame rail in the engine compartment to handle the distribution of coolant. Since a 7CZ C16 CAT was never a factory option for a 389 Peterbilt, the intake, radiator and CAC piping was Kustom built in mirror stainless.  The electronic interface of the engine to the cab was also replaced since the harness supplied with the glider kit and was not compatible.

Now that the drive train has been interfaced and plumbed into the cab it’s time to install the Kustom options.  Starting at the front of the truck we bolted a 20” taper boxed end bumper, 7 OEM grill bars and aftermarket headlights on JJ brackets.  We used chandelier style LED bulbs with watermelon lenses for the marker, breather and bumper lights.  A Kustom indirect lighting package was used under the cab.  A set of 7” Dynaflex pipes feed into the ceramic coated exhaust piping kit.  A Kustom bowtie drop visor along with the battery step boxes as well as the deck plates from BOC to EOF were mirror stainless.  We used 6” under cab and sleeper panels to take care of the gap between the cab and frame.  While we were at it we got rid of the factory hood latch system and went to a hidden hood latch.  The paint and polish theme we used in the engine compartment was also applied to all peripheral bodies and brackets for the headlights, breathers, air and fuel tanks and Hodgebuilt long radius ½ fenders.  To tie in the back of the truck a Kustom light bar was integrated into the end of the frame.  There are a lot of small detail items that were left out but I think we hit the majority of the big stuff we did to the truck before it left.
